A group of Rural Advocates and NYS Rural Housing Coalition members met with DHCR’s Gary Hallock, Deputy Commissioner, Office of Community Development and staff to discuss rural development issues and how we can partner to deliver even more affordable housing. Of particular interest, was streamlining processes while satisfying criteria for the best affordable housing products possible, to avoid unnecessary cost. Ways to improve the use and distribution of pre development seed money was discussed. The work group intends to continue to meet at least quarterly. A “checklist” for seed money application and preliminary site review will be drafted for the next meeting.
