Attorney General Schneiderman hopes seized big bank money can help turn around vacant homes | syracuse.com.

The money comes from New York’s share of the $25 billion National Mortgage Settlement – a settlement with five big banks that contributed to the collapse of the housing market. Already, he said, the state has given about $2 billion in the form of principal reductions, refinancing and direct payments to homeowners and former homeowners.
